One Church, One Voice in Christ.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) serves as a beacon of unity, communion, and solidarity for millions of Catholics across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Established on March 15, 1958, CBCN embodies the collegial spirit of the Nigerian Catholic bishops in union with the Pope, signifying the Church as one family. Through this vital organ, the bishops, as successors of the Apostles, unite in prayer, study, and action to advance the teaching, prophetic, and pastoral mission of the Church in Nigeria.

Our Story

Since its incorporation in 1958, CBCN has stood as a forum for the collective voice of Catholic bishops from 54 ecclesiastical jurisdictions. Rooted in faith and service, the Conference gathers twice annually for plenary sessions to pray, deliberate, and address issues central to the Church’s evangelizing mission.

From promoting human dignity and justice to fostering reconciliation and societal development, CBCN’s story is one of steadfast commitment to the spiritual and moral growth of both the faithful and the wider Nigerian society. Anchored by an executive body, CBCN continues to lead with unity and purpose.
